It's Not Exactly USC Or Ohio State, But the Cyclones Will Play South Dakota State At Jack Trice Stadium In Ames On Aug. 30, 2008

Here's one that will really grab you by the jockstrap.

I mean, it's not like they'll be deciding the national championship or anything at Jack Trice Stadium.

A Titanic struggle it isn't.

South Dakota State will play a 2008 football game at Iowa State.

Careful now. Don't get short of breath over that one.

I'll call a doctor if you do.

The two universities have agreed to a contract for a season-opening game Aug. 30, 2008 in Ames.

“First, we’re excited to get another Iowa team on our schedule,” South Dakota State associate athletic director Rob Peterson said. “It’s an easy trip, so our fans should be able to follow us on the road.

"Plus, there are a large number of South Dakota State alumni in Iowa so we can expect to have strong support at the game.”

Earlier, South Dakota State announced a 2009 game with the University of Minnesota.

The game at Iowa State, which replaces one originally scheduled at Idaho State, gives South Dakota State nine dates filled in 2008. Current contracts have home dates with Western Illinois Sept. 13, Nicholls State Sept. 20, McNeese State Oct. 4 and UC-Davis Oct. 25.

“We still need at least one more home date,” Peterson said.

South Dakota State has open dates Sept. 6, Oct. 11, Nov. 8 and Nov. 22.

It will be the third time South Dakota State and Iowa State have met in football. The Cyclones lead the series 2-0, winning, 57-19, in 1952 and 34-6 in 1954.
